Review: Sell Your Soul by Tatum Quinn

Digitally published by Tongue Tied Magazine, June 2022. View original publication.

Angsty and jaded, pop-rock anthem “Sell Your Soul” finds Tatum Quinn exploring just how far she will go for what she desires most.

Quinn’s lyrics are saturated in melancholy, utilizing expressive and emotional rock to drop out the sonic floor from anything you may expect to come next. “Sell Your Soul” is Quinn’s personal story of hitting rock bottom and the subsequent desire to do anything she can to save herself in this hellish descent. Trapped, defeated, and unsure of how to move forward, “Sell Your Soul” is expansive and expressive in its raucous pleas with the world that pushes Quinn past the point of no return.

“Sell Your Soul” finds its sonic comfort zone in hard hitting alternative rock, with shimmering guitar lines and punchy drums expanding the desperation found in Tatum’s lyrics. The rock styling is a perfect compliment to Quinn’s raspy vocals, including its own moments of pause to allow Tatum’s whispered pleas of the outro to take center stage.

When asked about “Sell Your Soul”, Tatum said “Sell Your Soul is a song written to myself; a song that at my lowest, was all I felt I had. Having no hope I phoned my family telling them ‘that’s it for me and music…I’m done!’ not realizing the pain that was fuelling this song was bringing me back around to the one thing I love & desire most…music.” Tatum Quinn finding her home again in music is something we can all be grateful for, especially when she hits us with anthems like “Sell Your Soul”.
