With just a few weeks left before the release of her debut EP “Try to Say Goodnight”, singer-songwriter Darcey Hope is back with another single sure to shatter your heart titled “Just a Phase”. Reflecting back on her own experiences of leaving toxic friendships and relationships, Darcey offers the perfect balance of nostalgia and lingering resentment bundled in a soft folk-pop song that anyone can relate to.

Driven by an acoustic guitar, Darcey Hope goes through the ringer trying to let go of a relationship no longer serving her best interests at heart. Her lyricism is raw and conversational, speaking all the questions everyone has had about their own painful relationships. The harmonies involved in this track take on an almost ethereal view as Darcey elevates to a higher level through her growth out of these poor friendships. When asked about “Just a Phase”, Darcey said “It’s been so therapeutic for me to finally record this song and get it out in the world, it feels like that chapter of my life is closing and the next one is only beginning! I hope the song helps listeners let go of their past, or find solace in what they may be struggling with now.”

Sonically, Darcey Hope has clear inspirations from artists such as Phoebe Bridgers, Kacey Musgraves, and Lizzy McAlpine, but Darcey’s music is undeniably her own. With “Just a Phase”, Hope has shown the listeners a familiar memory to reminisce upon, indicative of the exploration of self found in every person’s period of late adolescence and the wistfulness felt as you leave old versions of yourself behind.

“Just a Phase” is a beautiful showing from one of indie-pop’s rising phenoms, and can be streamed on Spotify. Be sure to also follow Darcey Hope on Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok - her debut EP “Try to Say Goodnight” is out June 23rd, and you do not want to miss it!
