Giving angel numbers a new meaning, indie singer HOL has released her latest track with the spiritual force of “333” on her side.

When asked, HOL stated “333” is a song written from the perspective of a teenager who’s trying to navigate through the emotions of growing up, making mistakes, and trying to become the person they envisioned themselves being when they were younger.” This description could not be more true as we follow HOL’s lyric journey of acknowledging the way she picks herself apart. Seeking the idyllic version of herself, HOL ends up lost in the trap of detrimental setbacks that only she creates. This translates further into her relationships with others, shown by lyrics such as “but you said something I don’t think you mean/ and I know when I drink that I get really mean” which rings throughout the chorus.

The message of “333” hits even harder when considering the meaning of the titular angel number, which represents a variety of different key messages. Notably, 333 is a number that represents the trinity between mind, body, and spirit that often appears when the balance and harmony between the trinity is not correct, as well as a symbol of love, life, and protection. As HOL yearns for the person she hopes to be, she seemingly recognizes the imbalance within herself of these factors yet is unable to sort out how to leave the cycle of pain she inflicts, causing the numbers to continue to reoccur in the symbolism of her life and the song.

HOL’s expressive vocals are accompanied by a simple guitar arrangement to start, leaving her lyrics to sit vulnerable and exposed at the forefront. Following the first chorus, however, the back half of the song turns into a more visceral and transcendent journey with expansive new sound journeys and angelic backing vocals. The track finds a reverent view of HOL herself by the end, with the listener almost feeling like an angelic viewer themself on her journey through sound and through life. “333” is the perfect blend of comfort and pain as HOL recognizes her own faults through soothing vocals, offering an easy indie-pop experience that feels like a worn-in blanket.
