Review: Roller by LaVo

Distorted vocals and a soulful choir lead the listener into the dazed and danceable journey of “Roller” by LaVo.

Utilizing the imagery of gambling on a dice game, LaVo is locked in a battle against the push of belief forced upon him by holy rollers. His inability to step away from the casino table battle of wills creates a desperation within the energetic synth and velvety smooth instrumentation for LaVo to ride high upon. As LaVo’s vocals careen to new heights, he sits within numbness and the plight of competition as he plots his control over the game of attraction he has found himself stuck within.

The layers of lyricism and imagery create an addictive burst of energy to discuss the obsession with freedom and competition. Within the bridge specifically, LaVo recognizes the mistakes made by gambling too much as he repeatedly sings “I know better, I know better than to roll them again”, yet he still can’t find the resolve to step away from the game by the end of the song.

Between the expansive dance energy of the track, soulful pop vocalism, and visceral lyricism, LaVo has created a summer staple with “Roller”. You can stream “Roller” now on Spotify, and be sure to follow LaVo on Instagram to keep up to date with what comes next!
