Whether it’s the feeling of love at first sight, the look that makes you realize everything changed right in front of you, or the last time your eyes connect, sometimes all it takes is a glance to express every emotion you’re feeling or change the trajectory of your life. Singer-songwriter and producer Stephen Langstaff knows the importance of a glance and has created ethereal beauty with the debut of his newest solo project’s first single, “Glance” by The Unbeat Soul.

Steeped in raw emotion, “Glance” is composed of haunting piano and lyrics that show his fierce love for his partner. This love and trust seems to be uncharted territory for Langstaff, with the chorus singing out, “ooh, and my heart’s less guarded/ maybe i don't need a defense/ ooh, if you think i don’t need ya/ take another glance”. This vulnerability is poignant and laced with emotion as Langstaff opens himself up to be hurt, allowing his partner to see how much trust and love he has for them with just a glance.

Langstaff said himself “‘Glance’ is about vulnerability. It’s trying to let someone know how much you need them for support without being a drama queen about it. The little things in life mean the most, don’t they?”, and this certainly rings true. “Glance” thrives in its own simplicity, as the lyrics take charge and open up the heart of The Unbeat Soul with only the support of soft and passionate piano. The delicate dance between the vocals and piano emulates the relationship Langstaff is singing about within “Glance”, and the storytelling of this coupling is powerful beyond measure.

With this strong of a debut, The Unbeat Soul is surely an artist to watch for the lovesick and emotive music lover. You can stream “Glance” on Spotify now, and follow The Unbeat Soul on Instagram and Twitter to ensure you don’t miss a single note.
